Divock Origi has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 31, bringing an end to a career defined by decisive moments on some of the sport’s biggest stages.

The former striker, best known for his spell at Liverpool between 2015 and 2022, lifted a remarkable collection of trophies during his time at Anfield, including the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Champions League.

Origi became a cult hero among supporters for his habit of producing crucial late goals in high-pressure situations. One of his most memorable contributions came in the 2019 Champions League final, when he scored in Liverpool’s 2–0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, helping to seal European glory.

In a statement shared on social media, he said:

“My purpose in the game is fulfilled,” he wrote on social media.

“I lived out my childhood dreams, played on the biggest stages, won the biggest trophies. Grateful to God for all of it.”

“The mission is complete. Now I step into my next calling.

“More of the journey to come.

    “Love, Divock Origi“.

Beyond Liverpool, Origi also represented Lille OSC, VfL Wolfsburg, AC Milan and Nottingham Forest, rounding off a career that took him across Europe’s top leagues.
