LeBron James has announced that he will join the Philadelphia 76ers next season on what he claims would be his final contract in the NBA.
The 41-year-old, the league’s all-time leading scorer, left the Los Angeles Lakers after eight seasons last month.
The Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Miami Heat were reportedly said to be in the running for the four-time NBA champion.
According to BBC Sport, James stated, “I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team, and I am so excited to energize a new fanbase and begin this incredible journey one last time.”
Earlier this week, James’ previous team, Miami, incorrectly provided a link to an ‘introductory press conference’ for James.
A Heat official told Reuters that the footage was mistakenly posted by personnel who were preparing for James’ potential return to the organization with which he won two NBA championships in 2012 and 2013.
Aside from that, he spent two seasons with Cleveland, which picked him in 2003 and is headquartered near his hometown of Akron, Ohio.
“Miami, I’ll forever love, and Northeast Ohio will always [be] home,” he added.
