The Lagos State Taskforce has intensified its enforcement drive against commercial motorcycle operators, commonly known as Okada, by seizing 63 motorcycles in a fresh clampdown across the state.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Director of Press & Public Affairs for the Taskforce, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the operation is part of efforts to curtail the activities of “recalcitrant Okada operators” who continue to defy the state’s ban on motorcycles along major highways, bridges, and other restricted routes.

The Taskforce Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, disclosed that the operation was carried out in areas such as Mile 2 Oke Bridge, Mile 2 Under Bridge, Berger Suya, Amuwo Odofin, and Apple Junction in the Festac axis.

“The ban on Okada operations in certain areas was put in place to ensure the safety and well-being of all Lagosians, and we will not tolerate any breach of this order,” Akerele stated.

He warned that violators who continue to operate illegally and endanger road users will be met with legal consequences.

“Those who continue to operate in restricted areas, endangering the lives of road users, will face the full wrath of the law,” he added.

Despite persistent warnings and public sensitisation, the agency lamented that many operators remain unyielding.

“Some operators remain defiant, thereby endangering public safety.

“The 63 motorcycles impounded during today’s operation have been confiscated, and legal action will be taken against the violators,” the statement read.

Reaffirming the state’s resolve, Akerele emphasized the government’s commitment to upholding law and order under its THEMES PLUS Agenda.

“We call on members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement officers by reporting violations and desist from patronising Okada operators for their own safety,” he urged.

The Taskforce assured that patrols and enforcement activities would continue across Lagos, especially in areas notorious for illegal Okada operations.
