The Lagos State Government has closed the Alade market in the state’s Onigbongbo region due to environmental violations such as filth, garbage burning, and environmental degradation.

Tokunbo Wahab, the state commissioner of environment and water resources, announced this on his X page on Wednesday.

He wrote, “Alade Market in Onigbongbo has been sealed over several environmental infractions such as lack of waste bins, filthy environment, illegal burning of refuse by the roadside, indiscriminate dumping of refuse, and failure to comply with the rules of #Lawma_gov.”

This comes after the Lagos State government closed down the Alaba International market in Ojo over its filthy environment.

Alaba International Market, recognized as West Africa’s largest electronics market, also sells household appliances.

In the same vein, the government declared on Sunday that the Auto Spare Parts and Machinery Dealers Association (ASPAMDA), BBA, and other markets within the Trade Fair Complex, located in the state’s Ojo Local Government Area, have also been closed.

Officials from the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) carried out the enforcement in collaboration with other sister agencies.
