President Bola Tinubu has landed in Lagos, Nigeria, following the conclusion of his working vacation in France.
On Tuesday, the president touched down at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, where Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other prominent figures were present to welcome him.
Olusegun Dada, the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, confirmed the President’s arrival in a post on X, saying, “Landing. Welcome home, Mr. President!”
Tinubu had left Abuja on August 30 for the working vacation, spending a week in London before heading to Paris.
A statement released on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, noted that Tinubu left Paris for Lagos, where he is set to hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates.
“During his time in Lagos, President Tinubu will also hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates over several days in preparation for the 2027 elections,” the statement said.
The Presidency stated that Tinubu flew to Lagos first in order to honor the memory of the late Chief MKO Abiola, who won the June 1993 presidential election and was a leading figure in Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
On Independence Day, October 1, the President is expected to attend the premiere of a movie honoring Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.
The statement noted that the president would also meet with political leaders and associates while staying in Lagos.
“While in Lagos, President Tinubu will also hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates over several days in preparation for the 2027 elections,” the statement read.
Tinubu’s working vacation also featured a private dinner in Paris with French President Emmanuel Macron.
He also held meetings with business leaders, among them Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group, whose media and digital holdings include Canal+, MultiChoice, and Universal Music Group.
On Monday, the president met with the chairman of First Holdings, Femi Otedola.
Last week, Tinubu was present at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the construction of a Gateway deep seaport in Ogun Waterside and the establishment of a Blue Marine Economic Zone in the area.
DP World, which the presidency described as one of the world’s leading ports and logistics operators, intends to invest $7bn in the seaport and economic zone.
The president is expected to head back to Abuja once he wraps up his political engagements in Lagos.
