Governor Usman Ododo has declared that securing Kogi State is vital to Nigeria’s overall stability, stressing the state’s strategic position as a link between the North and South.

Speaking in Abuja at the Kogi State Security Summit and Fundraising, Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

“Kogi State holds a critical place in Nigeria’s security architecture. Securing our state is, in many ways, securing the nation,” he said.

The governor warned that without peace, economic growth and development would remain out of reach, describing the summit as a call for collective action among stakeholders.

He pointed to rising threats including kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, and cybercrime, noting that these challenges require more advanced, intelligence-driven solutions.

Ododo said his government has stepped up security efforts through the deployment of operational vehicles, surveillance systems, and drones, alongside improved support for security agencies. He added that the Kogi State Security Trust Fund has been restructured to attract private sector investment.

Calling on businesses and individuals to support security initiatives, Ododo vowed zero tolerance for crime.

“We will not negotiate with criminals. Those who choose the path of crime must face the full weight of the law,” he stated.

Also speaking, Babagana Zulum urged sustained funding and the adoption of modern technology to combat insecurity nationwide.

Zulum said Borno State had reduced insecurity by more than 90 percent through consistent efforts and federal backing but stressed that the fight remains costly.

“The kinetic measures alone will not end the insurgency. We need modern equipment, including artificial intelligence, robotics, and drones,” he said.

He identified poverty, illiteracy, and poor infrastructure as key drivers of insecurity, calling for a broader strategy that addresses root causes.

Zulum also pledged technical support to Kogi State, as stakeholders at the summit emphasised collaboration, innovation, and sustained investment to strengthen national security.
