The CEO of Tesla and Space X, Elon Musk, has raised concerns over fears that the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, would destroy the right to free speech if elected as president.
Musk raised the concerns while reacting to a 2019 clip of Harris vowing to use the Department of Justice, DOJ, and law enforcement agencies to “hold social media platforms responsible” for “misinformation” as part of the “fight against this threat to our democracy.”
Harris, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, during a speech at a conference hosted by The Association For The Advancement of Coloured People in 2019, said, “And we will put the Department of Justice of the United States back in the business of justice.
“We will double the civil rights division and direct law enforcement to counter this extremism; we will hold social media platforms accountable for the hate infiltrating their platforms because they have a responsibility. to help fight against this threat to our democracy.
“And if you profit off of hate, if you act as a megaphone for misinformation or cyberwarfare, if you do not police your platforms, we are going to hold you accountable as a community.”
Reacting to the 2019 speech by the Vice President, Musk, in a statement on his verified X handle, wrote, “Kamala wants to destroy your right to free speech under the constitution.”
Harris would lock horns against Republican Party candidate Donald Trump for the top job at the White House in the US election scheduled to hold on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
