At least six people were killed and several others injured following pre-dawn Israeli air strikes in northern and central Gaza on Sunday, according to local rescue officials.

Civil defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal reported that five individuals lost their lives in a strike targeting a residential building in Jabalia, located in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.

“Five people were killed in a strike on a home in Jabalia, in the north,” he said.

Additionally, one person was confirmed dead in a separate drone attack on tents housing displaced residents west of Nuseirat in central Gaza.

Bassal added, “Another person was killed in a drone strike on tents sheltering displaced people west of Nuseirat in central Gaza.”

    • Israel to seize full control of Gaza as new offensive pushes civilians south

The Israeli military has intensified its offensive in the territory, describing the ongoing campaign as a renewed effort to dismantle Hamas.

In a statement released Saturday afternoon, the military said it had conducted strikes on over 100 targets across Gaza in the preceding 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Gaza’s health ministry reported that since the truce broke down on March 18, at least 3,747 Palestinians have been killed, pushing the total death toll from the war to 53,901 — most of them civilians.

Hamas’s October 2023 attack on Israel, which triggered the current conflict, led to the deaths of 1,218 people in Israel, also mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official data.

Militants also captured 251 hostages during the incursion. Of these, 57 are still held in Gaza, including 34 whom the Israeli military believes to be dead.
