Defending Serie A champions Inter Milan came from 2-0 down to earn a superb win against last year’s runners-up Napoli.
Lautaro Martinez netted two goals for the home team, including a decisive winner in the 90th minute, sandwiching a Marcus Thuram header.
Inter trailed by two when Napoli netted twice in three minutes early in the second half.
Napoli’s second occurred in unusual circumstances as the Inter defense lost concentration, thinking a stray ball was going out of bounds.
It was delivered and played to Rasmus Hojlund, who sent a shot into the far corner.
However, Inter—having triumphed in their first three league games of the season—bounced back and remains unbeaten at home in Serie A since November 2025.
Napoli, who ended the previous season 11 points adrift of Inter, have suffered consecutive defeats in Serie A after a home setback against Como last weekend.
Following a scoreless first half, Napoli stunned Inter with a quick duo of goals.
At the 50-minute mark, Max Allegri’s squad took the advantage when Matteo Politano found the bottom corner on his second attempt after his initial shot was deflected.
Three minutes later, no Inter players were focused when the ball seemed to be going out for a throw-in.
However, it came to a halt just before the sideline and was retrieved by Giovanni Di Lorenzo, who then laid it off to Hojlund at the border of the box.
Hojlund created a yard of separation from Inter midfielder Curtis Jones and curled the ball into the far corner for his second goal in consecutive league matches.
England international Jones entered the match at half-time for his second appearance since transferring from Liverpool in the summer, playing a key role in propelling Inter to a comeback victory.
Inter pulled one back just three minutes later, as Federico Dimarco expertly maintained an overhit cross in play. Martinez converted his initial pull-back from near the goal.
Thuram nearly found an equalizer by hitting the post, but with eight minutes remaining, the Frenchman scored with a header directed into the right corner.
The victory was achieved under extraordinary circumstances as Martinez scored from close range and celebrated enthusiastically with the home fans at San Siro.
Although Jones was included, English teammate John Stones remained on the bench.
Djed Spence, another English summer signing, was absent from the squad for the third consecutive Serie A match as he continues to recover from a fitness problem.
