A popular oil mogul and politician, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, is dead.

The federal lawmaker representing Anambra South Senatorial District was said to have passed on in London.

The lawmaker, who flew to the United Kingdom (UK) after becoming seriously ill a few weeks ago, died Saturday morning in a London hospital.

His condition reportedly became critical in the past 48 hours.

The cause of death was not clear as of Saturday morning.

This comes just a few days after Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s President-General, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, passed away.

Ifeanyi Ubah was elected Senator in 2019 on the platform of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) and reelected on that platform in 2023.

He contested the 2021 Anambra governorship election and came in fourth in a contest won by Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

He defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) earlier this year and has indicated interest in seeking the governorship of Anambra State in next year’s election.

Two days ago, Ubah and his campaign council made a monetary donation of N71 million to the APC in Anambra State.

The 52-year-old businessman was the CEO of Capital Oil (CCO), which he founded in 2001.

The deceased was married to Uchenna, a business administration graduate from Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria, with whom he had five children. He also ran a foundation named after himself, the Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation.

On his way to Nnewi in Enugwu-Ukwu in Anambra State in September 2022, gunmen attacked Ubah, but he managed to escape assassination. His convoy was shot at, and at least five persons, including two policemen, were killed.
