Youths in Umuadara, Umulogho community, Obowo Local Government Area, Imo State, captured a suspect in the murder of Wendy Achumba, a student at the College of Nursing, Obowo.
The Imo youth leader Chidiebere Iweajunwa directed the operation after local youths conducted an inquiry, according to a community source.
The culprit, Onyema Okonkwo, was reportedly arrested after a video interview apparently featuring a confession went viral online.
According to neighborhood sources, the suspect stated he and another person known only as Emmanuel went to the student’s house on the evening of the incident.
The victim was said to be living alone at the time when two other inhabitants of the residence left for a nursing practical program.
“She was the only one in the house. Three students occupied the building, but the other two had traveled for their nursing experience,” the source said.
In the viral video, the suspect allegedly stated that the victim was raped before being slain.
The suspect was eventually turned over to the police for further investigation.
The Nigeria Police Force spokesperson, Henry Okoye, had not responded to inquiries at the time of reporting this article.
