Quincy Olasumbo Ayodele, a church elder in the City of David Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has denied reports that Herbert Wigwe, the late chairman of Access Holdings, solely sponsored the Trinity Towers project.

In a conversation with on-air personality Daddy Freeze on Monday night, Ayodele revealed that the landmark structure was erected via the combined efforts of church members.

She said, “Pastor Herbert Wigwe did not single-handedly build Trinity Towers. It was a product of the collective efforts of all members of the City of David Parish, including him.”

In response to the controversy surrounding the 60th birthday celebration of the wife of the former pastor of the church, Idowu Iluyomade, shortly after Wigwe’s death, Ayodele stated that she was initially ignorant of the criticism.

“We were all devastated when we heard about our brother’s passing. I wasn’t in the country at the time, so when I heard about the birthday party, I thought maybe Mummy (Iluyomade’s wife) finally gave her approval for it to go ahead.

“But the next day, I started reading reports from UK-based blogs, and I was shocked,” she added.

Wigwe, his wife, and son died in a helicopter crash on February 9, 2024, causing shockwaves in Nigeria’s economic and religious circles.

However, just days after the tragedy, Siju Iluyomade, wife of the parish’s then-pastor, had a lavish birthday party, sparking uproar and eventually resulting in her husband’s suspension from the RCCG City of David Parish.

Ayodele revealed that the RCCG’s General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, had to act due to public outrage over the situation.

She explained, “Daddy Adeboye stepped in to calm tensions and placed Pastor Iluyomade on suspension, directing him to report to Ebute Meta.

“After he served his three-month suspension, we heard that a letter was issued, barring him from stepping into the City of David.

“While other pastors were reassigned, the directive for Pastor Iluyomade was clear—he must not return to City of David.”
