Gunmen have killed no fewer than six persons while eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries following two separate attacks on communities in the Barkin Ladi and Riyom local government areas of Plateau State.
An attack on the Hurum Gashish community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area resulted in the deaths of four people and the injuries of five.
According to sources, the event occurred about 10 p.m. on Sunday, when gunmen raided the area and opened fire on people.
In a related development, two people were confirmed deceased and three more injured in the Shonong Bachi village of Riyom Local Government Area.
The incident in Riyom is claimed to have occurred at 11 p.m. on the same day, with gunmen storming the neighborhood and shooting intermittently.
Residents claimed that the attacks generated fear, prompting many to evacuate their houses for safety.
Rwang Tenglong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, confirmed the incidents and stated that the attacks had left the affected villages in mourning.
He condemned the attacks, calling them troubling, and voiced concern about the reoccurring violence in rural communities throughout the state.
Tenglong stated that the injured individuals had been transported to neighboring medical facilities for treatment.
Attempts to contact Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer SP Alfred Alabo for confirmation were unsuccessful.
