Gunmen on Thursday night ambushed and beheaded 30-year-old Mr. Elisha Saku in Riwhie-Chwo, Nzharuvo, Miango District, Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State.
Residents stated the event began around 10 p.m., when gunmen invaded the village, causing panic and bewilderment.
The Irigwe Youth Movement confirmed the killing in a statement released on Friday, calling it “brutal.”
Joseph Yonkpa, the group’s national publicity secretary, signed the statement and prayed for the deceased’s soul, as well as divine comfort for the entire Irigwe country.
“Yesterday night, 16th April 2026, gunmen ambushed and beheaded Mr. Elisha Abbas Saku, 30, at Riwhie-Chwo, Nzharuvo, Miango District of Bassa LGA, Plateau State,” the statement read.
Alabo Alfred, spokesman for the state Police Command, was unavailable when asked about the event.
This latest incident adds to Plateau State’s persistent security concerns, particularly in Bassa LGA, where farming communities have been frequently attacked.
During the trial, the prosecution produced the victim, Mrs. Omietimi, who described her trauma in excellent detail.
She identified the second defendant, Eligwe, as the person in whose home she was confined during her captivity.
The investigating officer from the DSS, Bayelsa State Command, confirmed her statement by detailing how the authorities traced and apprehended the suspects.
