Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) announced that it “successfully transitioned” to a new and advanced Finacle Core Banking Application System while customers still struggled to access their funds on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

Chronicle NG reported that the bank made this known via an email to its customers on Monday while informing them that all branches will be open until 6 p.m.

“We are pleased to inform you that we have successfully transitioned to a new and robust suite of Finacle Core Banking Application Systems, and all our branches will be open till 6 pm today to serve you,” the statement read.

The transition had previously caused GTBank to halt transactions and close branches from noon on Friday, October 11. Monday noon was supposed to mark the end of this procedure. However, it encountered delays that prolonged the customers’ frustrations.

“Following our recent notification on the transition to a new and robust suite of Finacle banking application systems, we would like to update you that this transition has taken longer than planned,” the company said in an email sent to customers on Monday.

Chronicle reports on Tuesday about recent developments from bank customers.

“GTBank is misleading customers by claiming their systems are back online—this is false! I just finished a 12-minute call with their customer service, and the representative confirmed that the system is still undergoing upgrades”, Kehinde Adeboyega claims.

Olaleke Folaranmi wrote, “I saw a patient m, she had been stranded and couldn’t access healthcare because her Gtbank account was inaccessible.

“You should probably just transition into a food and fashion franchise.”

“Banking is a serious business, You play too much!!!”, he added.

“Dear @gtbank this is horrible. I still can’t access or do any transactions from my account! You’d have to pay me for all these inconveniences and discomfort”, George Uwaifo noted.

“It isn’t right to transition your entire system/platform at once. It can be done in part, over a month period. USSD & ATM Cards then Mobile App & Internet Banking. With this, the stress on your customer is reduced and you’re under a lot less backlash”, Anita A. Ike stated.

“10hrs later nothing is still working. The country is hard enough please rectify this thing abeg. App not working, Ussd not working, Debit card not working. WHAT’S THIS”, Shutter Geek queried.

“Nowhere else in the world would the regulator allow a financial institution stay offline for this long while lying to its customers who have no access to their money. @gtbank has set a new standard for incompetence. And this is why traditional banking is for disruption”, Waswani stated.

“Quit gaslighting your customers, your systems are still down! When I was able to log in (but still can’t transact) I saw some strange transactions in my account, were you guys under attack?! Transparency goes a long way oo.. regardless I’m changing banks. Thanks for years of service”, Damilola said.

GTBank joins a list of at least ten other Nigerian commercial banks that use Finacle. Group CEO Segun Agbaje confirmed the bank would make the technological change in July 2024.
