Barcelona midfielder Gavi is expected to be out for up to five months following knee surgery, the club announced on Tuesday.
“Gavi has had an arthroscopy to resolve a medial meniscus injury, which was sutured to preserve the meniscus. Recovery time is estimated at around 4-5 months,” Barcelona said in a statement.
In 2023, the 21-year-old Spanish international tore his cruciate ligament in the same knee.
He hasn’t played since August, and Barcelona had hoped that conservative treatment would address the problem without requiring surgery.
Barcelona will face Real Oviedo in La Liga on Thursday, Real Sociedad on Sunday, and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League the following week.
Gavi will not return until early 2026, when Spain is expected to be among the favorites to win the World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
