Nigerians have been advised not to visit Northern Cyprus by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigeria Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).

Dabiri-Erewa stated that because Northern Cyprus is not recognised by the international community outside of Turkey, there is little the Federal Government can do to diplomatically resolve problems in the territory.

The warning comes in the wake of reports that many Nigerians are dying in Northern Cyprus.

Additionally, Dabiri-Erewa urged Nigerians abroad not to be hesitant to invest in the nation due to security concerns.

She acknowledged that the nation’s insecurity issue is a matter for concern, but said that it is only a short-term issue due to the tough actions the Federal Government is now doing to address the issue.

She said that the commission had received over $20 billion in remittances from the diaspora in 2021.
