The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vice presidential candidate, Peter Obi, lied about funding of the electricity sector by the All Progressives Congress government.

Obi made the false claim at a town hall meeting tagged: “The Candidates”, organised by the MacArthur Foundation in collaboration with NTA and DARIA media on Wednesday in Abuja.

Obi said that the PDP government invested heavily in the power sector but that APC government had not invested anything in the sector.

“If you say that the PDP spent $16 billion and there is no power, it is not true,” Obi said.

He then went on to claim that, “the APC government has not spent a kobo on electricity, I mean a kobo.

“All the electricity you are seeing has been paid for by the PDP government, they have not invested anything, he said.

A look at the budgets presented by the APC government that came into power in 2015 shows that it has spent billions of naira in the power sector.
