The Management of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, Ogun State, has threatened to take legal action against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over Sunday’s raid on its facility.

Chronicle NG reports that operatives of the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 stormed the facility at about 2 a.m. on Sunday, arresting 93 youths, and seizing 18 vehicles and mobile devices during a “Wet & Rave Splash Extravaganza” party at the OOPL Rounda Fun Spot.

A viral video showed some youths scrambling for safety during the night raid.

According to a statement posted on the EFCC’s official X account, the operation followed credible intelligence about the youths’ suspected involvement in internet crimes.

Reacting to the development, the Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, Vitalis Ortese, said the operatives invaded the facility with over 50 armed men, shooting into the air and threatening to kill people.

He lamented that the invasion, allegedly led by one “Olapade,” caused panic and chaos, leading to serious injuries among participants who were trying to escape the gunfire.

Ortese described the incident as a clear invasion of private property, an infringement of OOPL’s rights as a corporate citizen, and a blatant violation of the rights of people who had gathered for the event.

“This morning, at about 2 a.m., the OOPL premises were invaded by a Gestapo-like gang of over 50 armed men, shooting guns, threatening to kill people, and purporting to be from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),” the statement read in part.

Ortese added that neither the police officers stationed at the OOPL gates nor additional officers sent from Kemta Police Station were informed of any EFCC operation, and no warrant was presented.

“When accosted by OOPL security and assisting police officers, the armed men simply retorted, ‘We are doing our job,’” he said.

The management demanded an explanation and apology from EFCC for what it described as “impudent actions” and warned that it would seek legal redress if the agency failed to comply.
