The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has re-arraigned former Skye Bank chairman, Tunde Ayeni, before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Apo, Abuja, over an alleged N15.6 billion fraud.

Ayeni appeared before Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie on Monday on an amended 18-count charge bordering on alleged criminal breach of trust, misappropriation and diversion of funds.

In a statement on Monday by EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale. The anti-graft agency said the amended charges followed the submission of additional proof of evidence in the case.

At the proceedings, EFCC counsel, Abba Muhammed, informed the court that the amended charge and supporting evidence had been filed on June 22, 2026. Defence counsel, Abdul Mohammed, confirmed receipt of the documents.

According to the EFCC, one of the charges alleges that Ayeni, while serving as chairman of the board of the defunct Skye Bank Plc, dishonestly misappropriated N510 million from depositors’ funds held in the bank’s suspense account on September 18, 2014. The funds were allegedly transferred to Capital Field Investment Group Limited in violation of the bank’s operational policy manual.

Another count alleges that on September 23, 2014, Ayeni diverted N600 million from the same suspense account to Harigold Ventures Limited through an account domiciled with Sterling Bank.

The EFCC said the alleged actions contravened Section 311 of the Penal Code and are punishable under Section 312 of the same law.

Ayeni pleaded not guilty to all 18 charges when they were read in court.

The former bank chairman was initially arraigned on May 4, 2026, on a 17-count charge before the amended filing.

Justice Onwuegbuzie subsequently adjourned the matter until July 6, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
