A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck the mountainous region in western Montenegro early on Thursday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The epicentre of the quake was in the Pluzine area, around 30 km (18.64 miles) from Montenegro’s city of Niksic, and not far from the border with neighboring Bosnia, the USGS data showed.
There were no immediate reports on casualties or damages.
Since 1900, Montenegro has had 234 quakes of magnitudes above 4 and up to 6.9: three quakes above magnitude 6. 26 quakes between magnitude 5 and 6. 205 quakes between magnitude 4 and 5.
The 6.9 magnitude in the Ritcher scale, was one of the most devastating the territory has known.
