Chelsea legend Didier Drogba is set to join a host of global celebrities in Istanbul for the official unveiling of Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen as a new Galatasaray signing.

Osimhen, 26, will be presented as a full Galatasaray player just hours from now, following a high-profile switch from Napoli that brings his time in Serie A to a dramatic close.

The Super Eagles striker was on fire last season while on loan at Gala, smashing home 37 goals in 41 appearances—form that made it impossible for the Turkish champions to let him go.

Galatasaray secured the forward’s permanent signature in a deal worth up to €80 million, including €40m paid upfront, €35m to come next summer, and €5m in performance bonuses. Napoli will also receive a 10% sell-on clause and insisted on a two-year block preventing any move back to Serie A.

While fans in Nigeria and across Europe await his first official outing, Gala are pulling out all the stops for Osimhen’s grand reveal including bringing in club icon Didier Drogba to witness the event live.

Drogba, who played for Galatasaray between 2013 and 2014, scored 37 goals in just 15 games for the Turkish giants and remains a beloved figure in Istanbul. His presence adds star power to Osimhen’s unveiling, reinforcing the club’s ambition.

Reacting on social media, Drogba posted: “I’m thrilled to be attending Victor Osimhen’s unveiling in Turkey! After all the stress, it’s time to celebrate. I’m confident Osimhen will shine in the Turkish league.”

Although Drogba and former Super Eagles skipper John Mikel Obi had previously tried to steer Osimhen toward a Chelsea move, the Ivorian has now fully thrown his weight behind the striker’s Galatasaray adventure.

Osimhen, the reigning 2023 African Footballer of the Year, has joined one of Turkey’s biggest clubs at the peak of his powers. With Drogba’s blessing and a record to chase, Galatasaray fans are bracing for fireworks from their new No. 9.
