Senator Dino Melaye who sought re-election in the Kogi West Senatorial District election held on 16 November has vowed to report his main challenger Smart Adeyemi to the International Criminal Court, (ICC) at the Hague.

Melaye who is a member of the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) described the election that have been “inconclusive” as a civil war.

In a tweet on Tuesday, he said he was going to report the governor of Kogi state. Yahaya Bello and others who he believes were key player in the just concluded governorship election.

“What we had in Kogi is no election, what we had was a civil war that has claimed 16 lives so far. I will report Yahaya Bello, Smart Adeyemi. Taofik, Speaker Kolawole and Sunday Faleke to the international community and then proceed to Hague. This I promise,” he tweeted with his initials SDM.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on 17 November had declared the Kogi West Senatorial election as inconclusive with Mr Melaye of the PDP and Mr Adeyemi of the APC, the main contenders.

The returning officer, Professor Olayinde Lawal, declared the election inconclusive, though Adeyemi led Melaye with 20,570 votes, by scoring 80,118 votes, while Melaye scored 59, 548 votes.

Lawal said the margin between the candidates is lower than the 43,127 registered voters in 53 polling units of 20 registration areas in the zone where elections were cancelled.

The returning officer, who declared the election inconclusive said, he was constrained by law to declare a winner because of the smaller margin of lead between the leading candidates and the cancelled votes.
