The Nigeria Customs Service has cautioned Nigerians to ignore a fake recruitment update circulating on social media, claiming it did not come from the service.

The NCS asked the public to rely solely on information issued through official communication channels for accurate updates on its actions, including recruitment.

Recruitment scams have become a recurring issue in Nigeria, with fraudsters frequently taking advantage of popular interest in government employment by circulating fraudulent adverts and asking money from naive applicants.

Security agencies and government entities have regularly advised residents against responding to unofficial recruiting notices.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Service stated that the recruitment update currently being circulated on several social media channels was incorrect.

The statement partly read, “The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) wishes to inform the public that the purported recruitment update currently circulating on some social media platforms is fake and did not originate from the Service.”

The NCS advised Nigerians to verify information through its official platforms before sharing or acting on it.

It added, “Members of the public are advised to disregard the publication and rely only on information disseminated through the official communication channels of the Nigeria Customs Service.”

The NCS listed its verified social media platforms as Facebook (Nigeria Customs Service) and its official Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), Threads and TikTok handles (@customsng).

The statement added, “Stay vigilant. Verify information before sharing.”
