The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Omoyele Sowore, an activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, to the Kuje Correctional Centre.
Sowore will remain in detention until Wednesday, when he will face a two-count cybercrime accusation issued by the Department of State Services (DSS) for referring to President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal” in a social media post.
Sowore’s remand came after the judge revoked his bail.
On June 16, Trial Justice Mohammed Umar revoked the defendant’s bail and issued a warrant for his arrest.
The arrest warrant was issued after the defendant, who was scheduled to provide his defence to the charge, failed to appear in court for the continuation of his trial.
Sowore had earlier decided to represent himself in court after his legal team withdrew from the case.
Meanwhile, on Monday, Justice Umar dismissed a plea to disqualify him from conducting the trial due to suspected bias.
