Chelsea FC Women have confirmed that they will play all of their home matches at Stamford Bridge beginning next season, ending their nine-year tenure at Kingsmeadow.
Chelsea Women will move from the 4,850-capacity Kingsmeadow, whose attendances have frequently sold out, to the 41,000-seat Stamford Bridge, home of Chelsea FC, marking a significant step in the club’s development.
According to BBC Sport, head coach Sonia Bompastor stated on Wednesday that the team is ready to move on to the next level of its development, having already played at Stamford Bridge for select fixtures and all UEFA Women’s Champions League matches.
“This is an exciting opportunity for us to keep growing, to perform at the highest level and to create a special atmosphere in a stadium we all love,” Bompastor said.
The transformation has long been a part of the club’s strategic strategy under CEO Aki Mandhar, who has highlighted Chelsea’s aim to become a global leader in women’s football.
The decision was also made after consultation with supporters and reflects rising demand for tickets, with Kingsmeadow routinely operating at full capacity.
Chelsea won their final match at Kingsmeadow earlier this month, defeating Tottenham Hotspur Women 2-1 to go to the Women’s FA Cup semifinals. The stadium will continue to serve as a home for the club’s academy teams.
Chelsea joins other Women’s Super League clubs, like Arsenal Women, Aston Villa Women, and Leicester City Women, in moving matches to their main stadiums in recent seasons.
Despite a strong, unbroken domestic triple in 2024-25, Chelsea is currently in a transitional stage and will forfeit their long-held league crown.
However, the permanent move to Stamford Bridge demonstrates the club’s long-term commitment to expansion, better visibility, and sustained success.
The players characterized leaving Kingsmeadow as “bittersweet” in a statement to supporters but underlined their objectives for the future, promising to build on past triumphs and create new history in their new home.
