Chelsea booked their place in the last 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup with a commanding 3-0 win over Espérance de Tunis at Lincoln Financial Field, bouncing back from their earlier defeat to Flamengo in style.

Despite sweltering conditions — the hottest day in Philadelphia since 1994 — a rotated Chelsea side missing key players Cole Palmer and Pedro Neto took time to find their rhythm against a resilient Espérance defense.

The Tunisian side looked sharp early on, perhaps better adjusted to the heat, but clear-cut chances were scarce.

Chelsea’s first real breakthrough came on the stroke of halftime. After a few set-piece warnings, Tosin Adarabioyo rose unchallenged to head home Enzo Fernández’s pinpoint corner in first-half stoppage time, giving the Blues a crucial lead.

Moments later, Chelsea doubled their advantage through Liam Delap, who marked his first goal for the club with a fine solo effort — holding off one defender, dancing past another, and slotting coolly into the far corner.

The double blow before halftime deflated Espérance, who rarely threatened in the second half. Chelsea remained dominant, with Enzo Fernández and Christopher Nkunku missing good chances to extend the lead, while Noni Madueke fired just wide.

As the pace of the game dropped, manager Enzo Maresca made several substitutions to preserve legs for the knockouts.

One of those substitutes, Tyrique George, put the result beyond doubt in added time, with his long-range strike slipping through the gloves of Espérance keeper Bechir Ben Saïd.

With the victory — their fifth clean sheet in six wins — Chelsea advance to face Benfica in the last 16. Espérance, meanwhile, exit the tournament after suffering their sixth defeat in nine Club World Cup matches.
