Burnley and Leeds United have secured automatic promotion to the Premier League, following pivotal results in the Championship on Monday.

Burnley confirmed their top-flight return with a 2-1 victory over third-placed Sheffield United at Turf Moor, a result that also ensured Leeds’ promotion after their commanding 6-0 win against Stoke City earlier in the day.

Club captain Josh Brownhill was the hero for Burnley, netting twice to seal the win and cap off a dominant season in which the Clarets have conceded just 15 goals with two games to spare.

“I’m speechless,” Brownhill told Sky Sports. “All that hard work this season. We’ve been written off so many times—people calling us boring. We’ve bored our way to the Premier League.”

Leeds and Burnley now sit level on 94 points, though Leeds boast a significantly stronger goal difference.

Despite a mid-season wobble that saw them win just one of six matches in March, Leeds have now won four in a row to finish strong under manager Daniel Farke.

“It’s amazing to see the way the team handled the pressure,” said Farke, who previously led Norwich in the Premier League. “This performance speaks volumes about the character of the players.”

Farke also praised forward Joel, comparing his goal-scoring return to a bottle of ketchup: “Nothing comes out at first, then suddenly it all pours out.”

Meanwhile, Sheffield United’s poor run of form, including three straight defeats, has seen them drop out of the automatic promotion race. They now head to the playoffs alongside Sunderland, Bristol City, and Coventry, though Middlesbrough, Millwall, and Blackburn are still in contention for a late push.

At the bottom of the table, Plymouth kept their survival hopes alive with a 3-1 win over Coventry, led by a brace from Mustapha Bundu. Derby and Luton also claimed crucial 3-1 victories, while Portsmouth all but confirmed safety with a narrow 1-0 win against 10-man Watford.

Elsewhere, Middlesbrough’s playoff ambitions took a hit following a 2-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.
