President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Boss Mustapha as new Secretary to the Government of the Federation. His assumes office with immediate effect.
Mustapha was former managing director and chief executive of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) which was established by Decree No. 13 of 1997 with the mandate to manage Nigeria’s vast inland waterways.
The appointment of Mustapha was contained in a statement issued on Monday by Femi Adesina, special adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.
Adesina said Mustapha will replace Babachir Lawal who was sacked in the same statement.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has studied the report of the panel headed by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, which investigated allegations against the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Babachir David Lawal, and the Director General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ayo Oke,” Adesina said.
“The President accepted the recommendation of the panel to terminate the appointment of Mr Lawal, and has appointed Mr Boss Mustapha as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The appointment takes immediate effect.
“President Buhari also approved the recommendation to terminate the appointment of Ambassador Oke, and has further approved the setting up of a three-member panel to, among other things, look into the operational, technical and administrative structure of the Agency and make appropriate recommendations.
Both men were mired in some controversies and the President had ordered full scale investigations into their cases.
Babachir Lawal was indicted by a Senate Committee probing the disbursement of funds meant for the Internally Displaced Persons camps.
The Committee alleged that Lawal awarded a N200m contract to a company linked with him to cut grass at an IDP camp.
Meanwhile, Ayo Oke was linked recently with the shocking discovery of $43.45million in a private apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
