Two brothers, Halilu Shittu and Muhammadu Shittu, have reportedly been shot dead by bandits in Azara village, while over 1000 cattle were rustled in neighbouring Bishini village, Kachia, Kaduna State.

According to Yahuza, a resident of Azara, the brothers lost their lives after bandits invaded their farm on Saturday, May 20, 2023, and shot them while they were producing charcoal. Thereafter, they invaded Bishini village, killed a villager, and rustled over 1,000 cattle.

Ibrahim Isah, the Sarkin Hausa of Azara, did not return phone calls put through to him to confirm the incident, but a source close to the chief who pleaded anonymity verified the occurrence.

The source stated, “It was just this morning (Sunday) that the corpses of the two brothers were retrieved from the farm, and as I am talking to you, their remains are being prepared for burial”.

He went on to say the rustled cows had been recovered by Yan-Sakai hunters and were being held in a forest to be handed over to security personnel.

The Bishini Village Head, Zamani Dogon Yaro, who also corroborated the occurrence, stated, “Over 1,500 cows were rustled by the bandits, but as God will have it, the cows have been retrieved, except that we lost one person during the attack”.

Efforts to reach DSP Muhammed Jalige, the spokesman for the Kaduna Police Command, to confirm the report were abortive at the time of filling out this report.
