Suspected Boko Haram sect members have launched attacks in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

DAILY POST reports that gunshots are being fired in all directions around Jiddari Polo in Maiduguri, as residents scamper for safety. This is coming in less than 24 hours ahead of the visit of the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo. He is scheduled to visit the state tomorrow, Thursday, to distribute relief material directly to thousands of victims of Boko Haram Insurgency.

DAILY POST gathered that, the insurgents who came through Jiddari Polo ward of Maiduguri came with loud gunfire that put the whole town in a serious confusion as people took to their heels in a move to save their lives.

Residents of Jiddari Polo who are still indoors are calling on friends and relatives for prayers.

A resident, Salama Audu, who spoke to DAILY POST on phone said, she does not know the whereabouts of her husband and two children who went out to buy bread just before the fighting began.

“We are at home when they said they want to go out and buy bread, now I cannot get them on phone after several calls. My husband did not pick, neither did he call back”, she lamented.

The Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Usman in a text said, people should not panic and that people should not runaway as the military was on top of the situation and had restored normalcy.

Also Lt. Col. Kingsley Samuel, the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations 7 Division Nigeria Army said the situation was under control.

“The general public is requested not to panic but stay calm”, he said.
