No fewer than 200 inmates escaped from the Maiduguri correctional facility after a portion of the facility’s perimeter fence was pulled down in the aftermath of the flood that submerged 70% of Borno State. It was gathered that the floodwaters ravaged the facility’s security, damaged barriers, and weakened its structure, leading to the escape of the inmates. The Presidency has stated that the Trade Union Congress of the United Kingdom’s charges of human rights breaches against Nigeria are “unfounded and based on a misunderstanding” of the ongoing case concerning the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero. The man who attacked Ugandan runner Rebecca Cheptegei died of injuries incurred when he poured fuel on the Olympian, the Kenyan hospital treating him announced Tuesday.  According to police, Dickson Ndiema Marangach assaulted Cheptegei at her house in western Kenya on September 1. The mother of two died last week after sustaining 80 percent burns.
