The Anambra State Police Command announced that it has saved a 27-year-old man, Alozie John, from an attempted suicide in the state’s Umunnachi community, Dunukofia Local Government Area.  The young man, a livestock dealer from Isielu LGA in Ebonyi State, is claimed to have attempted suicide due to a debt of N1.2 million to his livestock supplier. A knife attack in the western German city of Solingen has killed three people and critically injured four others, according to authorities. The knife attack occurred on Friday evening at a festival in the city center and there are reports that the knife attacker is still at large. According to the German media site Bild, the attacker attacked passersby at random. A massive manhunt is currently underway, with police helicopters sighted hovering above the city. Twenty medical students from the University of Jos (UNIJOS) and University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) who were kidnapped in Benue State have just been rescued, security sources revealed. The rescue was disclosed by security sources on Friday. The rescue operation was coordinated by the Office of the National Security Adviser. The rescue operation involved security agencies, including the police, DSS, and military personnel, along with support from the Benue State government. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has congratulated Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold his victory in the 2023 governorship election.  The Supreme Court’s five-member panel unanimously rejected All Progressives Congress candidate Timipre Sylva’s appeal contesting the election results. The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the appeal of Muritala Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party candidate in the Kogi State governorship election. Ajaka had contested the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) announcement of the November 11, 2023 election results, which showed Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress as the winner. Following the dismissal of his petition by the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal, Ajaka filed an appeal with the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which was also dismissed. The Nigerian Customs Service’s Oyo/Osun Area Command, led by Dr. Ben Oramalugo, seized 2,280 wraps of Cannabis sativa weighing 1824 kg.  The substance was concealed in over 200 sacks of sawdust and transported in a six-tyre DAF truck along the Ilero axis of Oyo State. President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as Nigeria’s 23rd Chief Justice, pending approval by the Senate.
