A Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja on Tuesday convicted and sentenced Marco Antonio Ramirez, an American businessman, to 74 years in prison for defrauding victims of $1.2 million through an EB-5 visa scheme and an additional $368,698.24 in fraud.  The sentence was handed down by Justice Mojisola Dada, who found Ramirez guilty of two different consolidated offences brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has revealed that at least 20 aspirants in the forthcoming Kano State local government election have tested positive for multiple drugs. No fewer than 200 inmates escaped from the Maiduguri correctional facility after a portion of the facility’s perimeter fence was pulled down in the aftermath of the flood that submerged 70% of Borno State. It was gathered that the floodwaters ravaged the facility’s security, damaged barriers, and weakened its structure, leading to the escape of the inmates. The Presidency has stated that the Trade Union Congress of the United Kingdom’s charges of human rights breaches against Nigeria are “unfounded and based on a misunderstanding” of the ongoing case concerning the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero.
