No fewer than 28 people were killed and 19 others seriously injured when a bus swerved into a river in southern Ethiopia on Wednesday, local authorities said. The accident, according to reports, happened in Wolaita,i which lies about 400 kilometres (around 250 miles) south of the capital Addis Ababa. “So far, 28 people have died in the accident and 19 others have been seriously injured,” local authorities said on Facebook. The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has proclaimed its preparedness to suspend Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and anyone implicated in anti-party activities.  Addressing the media at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, the party’s National Chairman, Chief Edozie Njoku, accused Soludo of resisting every move by the Supreme Court-recognised NWC to restore harmony within the party while continuing his anti-party behaviour. The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday adjourned the money laundering case against former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) until October 30, 2024, for a ruling. Justice Emeka Nwite ordered the adjournment following Bello’s request to appeal to the Supreme Court, seeking to quash the trial court’s arrest warrant issued on April 17. Private Ruth Ogunleye, a former female soldier who was discharged after accusing a senior officer, Colonel I.B. Abdulkareem, of sexual harassment, has asked the Nigerian Army to release the findings of its inquiry into the matter.  In January 2024, on her TikTok profile, @Ogunleyeruthsavage1, Ogunleye said that Colonel I.B. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has given the Federal Government a 14-day ultimatum to resolve several lingering issues. The union wants to renegotiate the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement based on the Nimi Briggs Committee’s 2021 Draft Agreement, as well as the release of withheld salary from the 2022 strike action. The Bauchi State Government has presented a supplementary budget of N94.676 billion to the State House of Assembly for approval.
