A non-governmental organisation, JAC, has accused the Kogi State governor, Usman Ododo, of protecting his predecessor and political godfather, Yahaya Bello, from justice by allegedly obstructing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, from arresting the ex-governor. The NGO made the allegation in a statement signed by Kehinde Osifisan, its Programs Director. The NGO called on President Bola Tinubu to warn the Kogi governor to desist from the “obstruction of the statutory functions of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in the bid by the EFCC to arrest and prosecute the immediate past governor of Kogi State, Mr. Yahaya Bello.”…

The Kogi State House of Assembly, on Monday, demanded the sacking of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, over what the Assembly described as the unprofessional handling of the corruption case against Yahaya Bello, the immediate-past Kogi governor. During Monday’s plenary in Lokoja, the legislators denounced the EFCC’s siege of the Kogi State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja in an attempt to arrest Bello last Wednesday. The windscreen of an Embraer ERJ 145 operated by Air Peace smashed in Abuja on Monday, causing panic among passengers.  As the plane landed at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, the windscreen reportedly smashed, raising fears among passengers and aviation officials who observed the incident. Omoyele Sowore, a human rights campaigner travelling to Abuja, was one of the passengers on board. Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of Dangote Group, has called on the Federal Government to entirely eliminate petrol subsidies.  He stated that the removal will aid in determining the country’s true petrol usage while also confirming ownership of two upstream oil blocks with a production date of next month.
