Thailand became the first Southeast Asian country to legalise same-sex marriage on Tuesday, following a historic parliamentary decision hailed as a “victory” by activists.  The Senate upper chamber voted final approval—130 votes to four, with 18 abstentions—tto amendments to marriage legislation that allow same-sex couples to marry. The Lagos State Police Command has verified that the abducted Fouani brothers and two other people have been rescued. Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed this by text message to our correspondent on Tuesday. According to him, the brothers, Abbas Fouani, Youssef Fouani, and Amtal Fouani, who were abducted around 6 p.m. on June 14 in Lagos, were freed last night in Orugbo Iddo by Marine Police officers. Two suspects have been arrested by the police over the stabbing to death of a woman named Zara, whom they had checked into a hotel. According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday night at Galaxy Hotel, Byazhin, in the Federal Capital Territory’s Kubwa district. It was gathered that Zara and the males in the hotel room got into an altercation, which led to one of them stabbing her with a scissor. Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has instructed Heads of Local Government Administration to immediately take charge of the 23 council areas of the state. This comes on the heels of the expiration of the three-year tenure of the elected local government chairmen, vice chairmen, and councillors on Monday, June 17, 2024. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Nasarawa State has thwarted an attempted attack on its state headquarters in Lafia by suspected bandits.  An undefined number of suspected shooters were claimed to have invaded the NSCDC offices in Lafia early Monday morning, shooting intermittently to scare the public. The Kano State Police Command has condemned individuals booing Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II’s entourage as he returned to his palace following Eid prayers.  SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the command’s spokesman, delivered this statement in Kano on Monday. A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Christian Ike, has been kidnapped by yet-to-be-identified gunmen. Rev. Fr. Ike was kidnapped last Sunday, June 16, at Amagu Junction, Ndiokpalaeke, near Ajalli in the Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra state. No fewer than seven people were killed when an express passenger train and a commodities train collided on Monday in India’s West Bengal state, derailing three passenger cars, according to authorities.  Images on Indian networks showed the tangled wreckage of carriages twisted on their sides, with one thrown far into the air and dangerously poised on the other.
