A pan-Yoruba activist, Aare Kurunmi Kakanfo, has alleged that the Igbos will lead Nigeria into another civil war. The Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has stated that the distribution of seized food items will commence on Friday. Adeniyi, speaking to the press in Lagos on Thursday, cautioned that the seized food products would not be resold. Adeniyi further stated that customs officers were prohibited from participating in the exercise and that the rice would be sold in 25 kg bags for N10,000. Recall that the Customs stated that it had completed plans to begin the direct distribution of seized food supplies to Nigerians. A protest against rising food costs that began early Thursday apparently became violent after protesters allegedly stole a trailer carrying food along the Suleja-Kaduna road. According to eyewitnesses, the protesters overpowered the driver and grabbed control of the trailer, which was laden with rice and other things. They then began to steal from the truck. Asue Ighodalo, a businessman, has been named the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party governorship primary poll, which was held in Benin City, Edo State, on Thursday. During the election, Ighodalo defeated around nine other candidates, including the state’s Deputy Governor. He received 577 votes to become the PDP candidate in the state’s governorship election on September 21, while his closest challenger received one vote. A Muslim cleric has called for the killing of Remi Tinubu, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.  The cleric, in a sermon, noted that Mrs. Tinubu is an “infidel” who should be killed. EDO State Assembly Governor Philip Shaibu has emerged as the winner of the People’s Democratic Party’s governorship primaries.  The primaries conducted on Thursday, February 22, 2024, produced Shaibu as the candidate for the September 21 governorship election. Former Brazil footballer Dani Alves has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in a Barcelona nightclub in 2022. The court in Catalonia on Thursday sentenced the player to four and a half years in prison.
