The Edo State Police Command has announced the arrest of the suspected killer of a graduate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Glory Adekolure. The victim was reported to have gone to school (UNIBEN) for her final clearance on June 13, 2024, but her remains were found under a tree on a street in the Iyowa Community of Benin City, the Edo State capital. Two people were confirmed dead, and 16 people apparently survived the recent cholera outbreak in portions of Rivers State.  Dr. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh, the state’s Commissioner for Health, confirmed this in a press statement signed by her in Port Harcourt on Thursday, stating that there were no cases of cholera in the state at the time. Oreh revealed that the incidence occurred in three communities inside the Andoni Local Government Area and that the two victims died from cholera-like symptoms. Francis Ogwu, a 65-year-old pastor, has been handed over to police after allegedly defiling his seven-year-old domestic help.  Ogwu, the culprit, was detained after worried community residents raised an alarm. Miss Chidinma Ikeanyionwu, media aide to the Anambra Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, said this in a statement to journalists in Awka on Thursday. The late Nollywood actor John Okafor, also known as Mr Ibu, will be laid to rest on Friday, June 28, in his birthplace of Amuri, Nkanu West Local Government Area, Enugu State.  On Friday, videos circulated on social media showing the arrival of his body as relatives, friends, and colleagues gathered to say their final goodbyes. The Kenyan High Court has approved the use of military force to reestablish order after days of anti-tax protests that eventually overran police.  More than 20 people have reportedly been killed in the nationwide protests that are largely led by young people opposed to government plans to increase taxes. During intense rains in the early hours of Friday, the roof of a recently renovated terminal building at the international airport in New Delhi, India, partially collapsed, leaving one person dead and eight injured, according to rescuers. Online images appeared of cars crushed beneath enormous steel girders at the airport’s Terminal 1 departure area. Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the murder of two people in the state mistaken for armed robbers. This was disclosed in a news release that was signed by Ahmed Wakil, the state command police public relations officer. Following a complaint by one Ibrahim Lado, a resident of Hajiya Amina Lodge Gwallameji, the residents mistook them for armed robbers and responded forcefully, overpowering and injuring them. Britain’s economy recovered from a brief recession in the first quarter with stronger-than-expected growth, according to upwardly revised figures released Friday, boosting embattled Prime Minister Rishi Sunak ahead of next week’s general election.  The Office for National Statistics said that gross domestic product expanded by 0.7% in the first three months of this year, up from the previous estimate of 0.6%. President Bola Tinubu approved the National Construction and Household Support Programme at the National Economic Council meeting in Abuja on Thursday.  According to a statement released by presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, the project aims to increase agricultural output, strengthen the economy, and provide urgent economic relief to Nigerian people. Ngelale stated that the NEC-supported programme comprises cash allocations and infrastructure projects across the country’s geopolitical zones.
