The All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos State, has announced the suspension of its campaign activities ahead of the forthcoming elections due to fuel scarcity and cash crunch occasioned by the Naira redesign. The Group Chief Executive Officer, of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, Mele Kyari, has assured Nigerians that the lingering fuel scarcity will ease off next week. Hundreds of residents of Ondo State on Tuesday stormed the Benin-Ore-Shagamu Expressway at Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state, to protest against naira and fuel scarcity across the country. The expressway was barricaded for several hours, by the protesters who were singing various solidarity songs, causing traffic logjam on the road. Palpable fear has enveloped residents and traders of Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, as irate youths staged violent protests in many parts of the state capital. The protest reportedly started at Asero, Abeokuta, on Tuesday, by some customers of GTBank over their inability to get new naira notes from the bank. Operatives of the Nigerian Navy (NN) at the weekend rescued 18 victims of human trafficking and arrested two suspected members of the syndicate. A prosecution witness, Mrs Uche Uwalaka, on Monday told a Lagos State High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square, that a murder suspect, Benjamin Ogudoro, who allegedly burnt his wife and brother-in-law to death, has caused her family a lot of pain. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seized 10.8kg of illicit drugs and arrested 88 offenders in Lagos State in January 2023. Its spokesman in the Lagos State Command, Mr. Musa Mallum, stated on Monday that those arrested included 80 males and eight females. He added that narcotic joints raided and dismantled in the state in January were located at Alaba Rago, Lagos Island, and Agege areas. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said about 1,265,227 ad hoc workers will participate in the forthcoming general election.
