A competition and consumer protection tribunal (CCPT) has fined Multichoice Nigeria N150 million for challenging the court’s jurisdiction.  In a ruling on Friday, the tribunal ordered the company to provide one-month free subscriptions on DStv and GOtv, for Nigerians. On April 24, Multichoice Nigeria announced an increase in the cost of subscriptions for its DStv and GOtv packages. However, on April 29, the tribunal stopped Multi-Choice from increasing its tariffs and cost of products and services, which was scheduled to begin on May 1. Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has lamented that the wage increase demands being made by organized labour are not realistic. Akume said this in Abuja on Thursday during a meeting with the National Executive Council, NEC, of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN. Adeniran, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) CEO, said this at a stakeholders’ technical dialogue on the ‘operationalisation of the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) as a policy tool in Nigeria’ in Abuja on Thursday. Bandits on Thursday killed 12 villagers and seven policemen in an attack on a Zamfara State community. Commissioner of Police in the state, Muhammad Shehu Dalijan, who confirmed the attack, said the killing took place at Magarya village in Zurmi Local Government Area. He added that among the victims were a member of the Zamfara State Community Guards, also known as Askarawan Zamfara and four residents of the village. English Premier League (EPL) clubs have voted by 19-1 in favour of keeping video assistant referees (VAR) next season. Wolves triggered a vote on the use of VAR in the 2024-25 season after formally submitting a resolution to the Premier League in May. In order for VAR to be scrapped, 14 of the 20 EPL clubs needed to vote in favour of doing so. But only Wolves voted in favour of the proposal as they failed to gain any support from other top flight clubs. YouTube is changing its policies about firearm videos in an effort to keep potentially dangerous content from reaching underage users. The video sharing platform owned by Google said Wednesday it will prohibit any videos demonstrating how to remove firearm safety devices. In addition, videos showing homemade guns, automatic weapons and certain firearm accessories like silencers will be restricted to users 18 and older. The changes take effect June 18 and come after gun safety advocates have repeatedly called on the platform to do more to ensure gun videos aren’t making their way to the site’s youngest users, potentially traumatizing children…

A 28-year-old Abuja-based nurse, Lucy Likeh, who recently went missing in Nigeria’s capital city, has been found by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command.
