Two parents have died and their two children are in hospital following a house fire in Blackpool on Wednesday morning. Of the two children in hospital, one was said to be in a “very poorly condition,” according to Lancashire Police. The force said officers were called to the family home on Peter Street, in Blackpool, at 2.39am following reports of a fire with people feared to be inside the property. The Kano State Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Kofar-Mata, on Wednesday, lost three of his family members to a fire outbreak that gutted his residence at Kofar-Mata quarters in the state. The incident occurred early Wednesday while members of the family were said to be asleep. The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the permanent forfeiture of 20 cars, allegedly stolen from residential driveways and company car lots in Canada and shipped to Nigeria. Justice Deinde Dipeolu made the order for the final forfeiture after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) moved an application for the forfeiture of the cars since no person or organisation came forward to claim them. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has warned of major floods in certain Local Government Areas of Rivers State. Making this known in Port Harcourt during a workshop tagged ‘Downscaling of flood early warning strategies for early actions’, the director in charge of risk reduction at NEMA, Godwin Tepikor, canvassed support from the Local Government authorities to mitigate the effects of the flood.
