Momo Payment Service Bank Limited (MPSBL), the banking subsidiary of MTN Nigeria Communications Plc, is currently enmeshed in an alleged N23 billion fraud scandal, one month after launch. The MTN subsidiary has urged a Federal High Court to compel 18 commercial banks to refund the funds that were transferred to their customers using its platform. The money, MPSBL said, was erroneously and fraudulently transferred in 700,000 transactions into about 8,000 accounts belonging to customers. Japan’s government has urged people in Tokyo and its surrounding area to use less electricity on Monday, as it warned that supplies will be strained as the country faces a heatwave. Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales accepted a suitcase containing a million euros in cash from a former Qatari prime minister, the Sunday Times has reported. The paper says this was one of three cash donations from Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim totalling three million euros. Clarence House said donations from the sheikh were passed immediately to one of the prince’s charities and all the correct processes were followed. There is no suggestion the payments were illegal. The Nigeria Immigration Service says it is investigating the authenticity of the international passport obtained by Nwamini David, the lad who was taken to the United Kingdom by a former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu. The agency boss said it is probing allegations that the travel document may have been fraudulently procured. Police in Tuckahoe, New York, United States, have found the body of a former Nigerian diplomat, Ambassador Ejeviome Otobo, who was last seen in the community on June 15. The Tuckahoe Police Department on June 19 announced in a Facebook post that Otobo was missing and requested information from the public. Otobo, who was 70-year-old at the of his death, served as the Director and Deputy Head, Peacebuilding Support Office at the United Nations headquarters in New York between December 2006 and October 2013.
