Nine oil producing states received a total of N625.43 billion 13 per cent oil derivation, subsidy and SURE-P refunds from the Federation Account in the last two years, 2021-2022, Presidency said on Friday. Garba Shehu, a spokesperson to President Muhammadu Buhari noted that the oil producing states that received the refunds dating from 1999 to 2021 are Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo and Rivers. Indonesia’s parliament is expected to pass a new criminal code this month that will penalise sex outside marriage with a punishment of up to one year in jail, officials have confirmed. The legislative overhaul will also ban insulting the president or state institutions and expressing any views counter to Indonesia’s state ideology. Cohabitation before marriage is also banned. A Canadian man already accused of murdering one woman has been charged by police in the city of Winnipeg in connection with three more deaths. In May, police charged the 35-year-old Canadian man with killing one victim, 24-year-old Rebecca Contois. On Thursday, they charged him with three more counts of first-degree murder. All of the victims are believed to be indigenous Canadian women, Winnipeg police said.
