Nollywood actress, Hilda Dokubo, has been appointed as the chairman of Labour Party in Rivers state, a statement from the party chairman says. She succeeds Dienye Pepple whose tenure expired as the caretaker committee chairman. Nigeria’s Flying Eagles thrashed the Young Carthage Eagles of Tunisia 4-0 on Friday to finish third at the ongoing Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford has been awarded the Premier League Player of the Month for the third time this season. Meta Platforms Inc, parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, is exploring plans to launch a new social media app in its bid to displace Twitter as the world’s “digital town square”. “We’re exploring a standalone decentralized social network for sharing text updates. Islamist militants have killed at least 25 people in an attack in a fishing town in Nigeria’s Borno state, police and residents said on Thursday. Police commissioner Abdu Umar linked the attack in Dikwa to Boko Haram insurgents. He said a policeman was killed in a separate incident. Dikwa is close to the Sambisa forest, a Boko Haram stronghold, which has been fought over by Islamic State West Africa Province, who are also active in the Borno area.
