The United States has described the March 18 governorship and state house of assembly elections as troubling, stressing voter intimidation and suppression. In a report by the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken said that the election was laced with ethnically charged rhetoric. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate Dauda Lawal has unseated Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state in what may be described as the biggest upset of the general elections. Former Juventus striker Cristian Bunino was left red-faced and with a red card after being caught urinating on the side of the pitch before coming on for Serie C side Lecco.
