Parents in the Federal Capital Territory neighborhood of Kubwa have urged the federal and state administrations to provide bicycle lanes on the highways so that youngsters who own bicycles can ride to school and other locations safely following a hike in bus fares. They announced it at the second student-organized 10-kilometer cycling competition in Abuja. Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Bola Tinubu to use his “good offices and leadership position to immediately reverse the unlawful ban on 25 journalists and media houses from covering the presidential villa and restore the accreditations of those affected.” SERAP urged him “to publicly instruct the officials in the presidential villa to allow journalists and media houses to freely do their job and discharge their constitutional duty of holding those in power to account.” According to reports, the Federal Government recently withdrew the accreditations of some 25 journalists from covering activities at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.…

Gunmen have kidnapped at least 12 people in two separate incidents in northern States of Zamfara and Borno, officials and witnesses said on Saturday. The gunmen kidnapped four person late on Friday including the village head of Nasarawa-Burkullu community in Zamfara State, local official Muhammad Bukuyum said on Saturday. Bukuyum said the other victims were three local farmers, and that the assailants had demanded a ransom, without giving further details. The Kebbi Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it have recovered contraband goods in the state worth N164.8 million. The National Hospital, Asokoro, and five other hospitals in the nation’s capital have released 31 patients of a recent building collapse that claimed two lives in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The 37 people who were saved from the event on last Wednesday were brought to two private hospitals in addition to the National Hospital and Garki Hospital. In Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, a police orderly (name withheld) was shot and killed. Eyewitnesses claim that the tragic incident happened Friday night near the well-known Landmark hotel on Olu Obasanjo road. When the male police inspector was being fired at, the attackers fled in a 2005 Toyota Corolla that was grey in colour. The male police inspector was accompanying his principal at the time.
