Mr Timipre Sylva, the Bayelsa State All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the November 11 governorship election, has been disqualified by Justice Donatus Okorowo of the Federal High Court in Abuja. Sylva, who has been sworn in twice and served as governor of the state for five years, would violate the 1999 constitution as amended if allowed to run again, according to Justice Okorowo. Troops of the Special Military Task Force, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), maintaining peace in Plateau and parts of Kaduna and Bauchi States, have arrested 13 suspects over alleged kidnapping, banditry, rustling and other criminal offences. THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Uyo Zonal Command, in Akwa Ibom State, announced the arrest of six suspected internet fraudsters on Monday. Udenze Benjamin, Godwin Atike, Emmanuel Francis, Adebe Oluwademilade, Anietie Brownson, and Sabastin Obioma are among the suspects. More than 123,000 people have been displaced in the Gaza Strip since the outbreak of the conflict between Palestinian militants and Israel, the United Nations said on Monday. “Over 123,538 people, have been internally displaced in Gaza, mostly due to fear, protection concerns and the destruction of their homes,” said the UN’s humanitarian agency, OCHA. More than 73,000 are sheltering in schools, OCHA said, some of which have been designated emergency shelters. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has issued a warning about the risk of rapid flooding along the River Niger and River Benue Basins as a result of water released from the Lagdo Dam in the Republic of Cameroon.
