Detained Senegalese opposition figure Ousmane Sonko, who eight days ago resumed a hunger strike, is “very weak” and in an intensive care unit, one of his lawyers told AFP on Wednesday. Everton face a 12-point deduction after an investigation into alleged breaches of financial rules by the Premier League club, according to a report on Wednesday. The Sokoto State Election Petition Tribunal has affirmed Aminu Tambuwal’s (PDP) election as the validly elected Senator for Sokoto South Senatorial District. The All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Abdullahi Danbaba filed a petition disputing Tambuwal’s victory, requesting that the Tribunal declare the election inconclusive for failing to comply substantially with the terms of the Electoral Act. Danbaba further requested that the Tribunal order re-elections in 28 voting units where he claimed elections were not held during the February and April substantive and supplemental polls. The African Union has reiterated its call for a swift return to constitutional order in Gabon and Niger following the recent military coups in the two countries.
