Troops of the Nigerien Armed Forces in their fight against cross-border banditry have arrested a notorious Nigerian bandit kingpin known as Kachallah Mai Daji near the border town of Illela, Niger. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says the air components of Operations Hadin Kai and Whirl Punch in the North-East and North-Central killed several terrorists in airstrikes in Borno and Niger. The air force disclosed this in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Edward Gabkwet, on Sunday in Abuja. The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has cleared 37 contestants vying for various positions in its forthcoming election. This was contained in a document cited by  Chronicle NG on Sunday in Abuja, which show that 12 others were disqualified from the poll. However, it was stated that disqualified candidates reserve the right to appeal to the National Officers Election Appeal Committee. Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against Nigeria’s governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Mr Nyesom Wike “over their failure to account for N5.9 trillion and $4.6 billion loans obtained by their states and the FCT, and to publish copies of the loan agreements, including details and locations of projects executed with the loans.” The suit followed the disclosure last month by Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State that the immediate past administration of Nasir El-Rufai left $587m, N85bn debt and 115 contractual liabilities, making it impossible for the state to pay…

Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has denied listing ex-governors who are under investigation for corruption. Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson said the commission feels obliged to dissociate itself from a phantom report circulating in sections of the media claiming it has released a full list of ex-governors being investigated for alleged corruption. Dozens of people in two rubber dinghies reached the southern coast of England on Saturday, the latest among thousands of asylum-seeking migrants to make the risky sea crossing from France this year. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has unbundled the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) with the establishment of the Nigerian Independent System Operator of Nigeria Limited (NISO). The commission disclosed this in an order signed by its chairman, Sanusi Garba and Muslim Oseni, vice chairman, in Abuja on Saturday. According to the order, TCN will transfer all market and system operation functions to the newly formed NISO.
